How to use Avatar Maker: Initials Avatars
- Type a name into "Full name / Username (auto-extracts initials)"; two or more words give first and last initials (Sarah Connor becomes SC) and a single word gives its first two letters.
- Overwrite "Initials / Text" (maximum three characters) if you want something else; it also accepts a single letter.
- Choose "Avatar Shape" (Circle, Rounded Square, Square, Hexagon), a "Background Style", then the Primary, Secondary and Text colors. "Auto-Contrast Text" picks dark or white lettering.
- Adjust "Font Family", "Font Size Scale (%)" (50 to 150), "Border Style", "Border Color" and the drop-shadow checkbox.
- Set "Download Resolution" (128 to 1024 px), then press "Download PNG", "Download SVG Vector", "Copy Data URL (Base64)" or "Copy SVG Code".
Worked example
Name "Sarah Connor" fills the initials box with SC. With Circle, "Vibrant Diagonal Gradient (45deg)", primary #4f46e5, secondary #06b6d4 and Download Resolution 256, "Download PNG" saves avatar-sc.png at 256 by 256 pixels, and "Download SVG Vector" saves avatar-sc.svg with a 512-unit circle.
When to use this tool

Important limitations
Renders client-side using HTML5 Canvas and SVG vector math. Supports 1 to 3 characters, custom typography, shapes, and gradients with zero server transmission.
Frequently asked questions
Does the SVG match the preview?
Only in part. The SVG is always a top-left to bottom-right two-color gradient, even for Solid or 45-degree styles, with a fixed font size. Hexagon becomes a square, and border, shadow, transparency, font choice and scale are dropped. Use PNG for the exact look.
What size does "Copy Data URL" produce?
Always the 512 px preview canvas, whatever Download Resolution says. Only "Download PNG" resizes, by redrawing that canvas at 128, 256, 512 or 1024 px, so the 1024 option enlarges and can look soft.
How does Auto-Contrast decide on a text color?
It weights the Primary color's red, green and blue by 299, 587 and 114. Brightness of 128 or more gives dark #0f172a lettering, otherwise white. The secondary color is ignored, so check gradients by eye.
Why did typing a name overwrite my custom initials?
Every keystroke in the name box rewrites the initials. Enter the name first, then edit the initials box. Editing initials alone never touches the name field.
Can I get a transparent avatar?
Choose "Transparent (No Background)" and download the PNG. The shadow is skipped, leaving the letters and any border. Non-Latin letters or emoji depend on fonts installed on your device.
