How to use Speed Up Audio: Audio Speed Changer
- Press "Select Audio File" or "Load Demo Audio Clip" to show the waveform; clicking the waveform later jumps playback to that spot.
- For a quick tape-style change, use the "Change Speed (Pitch Changes Too)" tab and drag "Playback Speed" between 0.25× and 3.0×; the "Pitch Shift (Semitones)" tab raises or lowers the key while the download keeps the original length.
- For independent control, open "Independent tempo and pitch", tick "Use these settings for the download", and set Tempo and Pitch separately (time-stretch keeps the pitch), or use "Set tempo to fit" (exact m:ss length) or "Set tempo to match BPM".
- Try the "Slowed + reverb" or "Nightcore" preset, adjust the reverb amount and decay, then press "Render preview" to hear the real result.
- Choose WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG or FLAC and press "Download processed audio". A video file can also be sped up or slowed with its audio kept in sync.
Worked example
Load a 3:12 track, type 3:00 into Fit to exact length, press Set tempo to fit, keep time-stretch mode and download an MP3. The result is 3:00 long at the original key. Or press Slowed + reverb for a 0.80x version with a reverb tail.
When to use this tool
- Slowing a fast guitar solo to 0.5× and looping bars 12 to 16 while learning it.
- Speeding a lecture recording to 1.5× for a quicker review session.

Important limitations
Time-stretch is a WSOLA algorithm that works best between roughly 0.6x and 2x and adds artefacts beyond that. Very long files are limited by browser memory; video speed changes are limited to 250 MB and re-encode on your device.

Frequently asked questions
Does slowing down keep the original pitch?
It depends on the mode. Tape style works like a turntable, so slower sounds lower and faster sounds higher. "Time-stretch: tempo changes, pitch stays" uses a WSOLA algorithm that changes the length without moving the pitch. It sounds natural up to about 2x; above that expect artefacts.
Does the Pitch Shift tab keep the same length?
Yes for the downloaded file: it now time-stretches to compensate, so a 3:00 track stays 3:00 while the key moves. The live Play button in that tab still previews by changing the playback rate, so use Render preview to hear the exact result.
What do Nightcore and Slowed + reverb do?
Nightcore plays at 1.25×, which also raises the pitch by about 3.9 semitones. Slowed + reverb plays at 0.80× (about 3.9 semitones lower) and adds a reverb tail generated on your device with Web Audio convolution; the amount and decay are adjustable.
How do Fit to length and Match BPM work?
Fit sets tempo to original length ÷ target length, so a 3:12 track fitted to 3:00 runs at 1.0667x. Match BPM sets tempo to target BPM ÷ original BPM. You enter the original BPM yourself; the page does not detect it.
How long will the exported file be?
Original length divided by the tempo (plus the reverb tail if reverb is on). A 180-second track at 1.25× becomes 144 seconds.
Can I change the speed of a video?
Yes. The picture is re-encoded to H.264 with its timestamps scaled and the audio is tempo-changed with its pitch kept, so they stay in sync. It runs with FFmpeg on your computer; long or large videos can be slow or run out of memory.
