How to use Strikethrough Text Generator

  1. Type or paste text into "Enter Text to Strike Through"; it starts with "Limited Time Discount".
  2. Six cards appear: Classic Strikethrough (Long Stroke), Tilde Strike, Double Strikethrough, Slash Through, Underline & Strikethrough Combo and Cross Hatch.
  3. Press the copy button under the style you prefer; its label starts with the style's first word.
  4. To undo, paste crossed-out text into "Remove Strikethrough (Unstrike / Clean Text)" and press "Clean & Copy".
  5. Paste the result into any plain-text field to see whether that app renders the line.

Worked example

Type "Sale". The Classic card outputs S̶a̶l̶e̶, which is four letters each followed by U+0336, so 8 code units. The Tilde card outputs S̴a̴l̴e̴. Pasting the Classic result into Clean & Copy returns plain "Sale". The Double card uses U+033F instead, so "Sale" again gains one mark per letter.

When to use this tool

  • Showing an old price beside the new one in a text-only social post.
  • Marking a cancelled item in a plain-text to-do list shared in chat.
  • Adding a crossed-out correction for a joke in a message.

Important limitations

Uses Unicode combining diacritical marks (such as U+0336 and U+0334). While supported on virtually all modern mobile and desktop operating systems, some text-to-speech screen readers may announce combining characters distinctly.

Frequently asked questions

How is the line drawn without formatting?

Every character is followed by a combining mark: U+0336 for Classic, U+0334 for Tilde, U+033F for Double, U+0337 for Slash, U+0332 plus U+0336 for the Combo and U+0353 for Cross Hatch. It is real text, so it works where bold and italic buttons do not.

Why does it look different in different apps?

Combining marks are drawn by the font and the app. Some show the line offset, broken between letters or missing, and screen readers may read the marks aloud or skip them. Test in the destination first.

Does it work on emoji and non-Latin text?

Marks are appended after every UTF-16 code unit. Emoji and other characters outside the basic plane are split in the middle and may appear as broken symbols. Stick to ordinary letters, digits and punctuation.

What does Clean & Copy remove?

Every combining mark in the U+0300 to U+036F range. That also strips a real accent written as a combining mark, but an accent typed as one precomposed character such as é is left alone.

Can people search for struck-through words?

Poorly. Marks sit between the letters, so a search for the plain word usually fails to match. Keep important terms in normal text. Recipients using assistive technology may also hear each mark announced, so avoid it for important information.

Can I strike only some words or combine styles?

Yes. In the section below the style cards, tick one or more marks and click words to toggle them. The same panel checks which marks this browser can draw, counts characters against common bio and post limits, and gives HTML <s> and Markdown ~~ versions for places that support real formatting.
