How to use Compare Two PDFs
- Load the earlier version under "First PDF (Original / Baseline)".
- Load the newer version under "Second PDF (Revised / New)".
- Choose "Text diff (redline)" for word-by-word comparison or "Visual compare" for side-by-side canvas renderings with pixel diff overlays.
- Press "Compare Documents" (or "Run comparison"); status text steps through each page as it renders.
- Inspect identical vs modified pages, jump to flagged changes, and use "Download Diff Report (.txt)" or "Download redline report (.html)".
Worked example
Compare a 3-page contract with a 2-page revision. Page 1 has the same text in both, page 2 changes "Invoice total 100" to "Invoice total 120", and page 3 is missing from the revision. The summary shows Total Compared Pages 3, Identical Pages 1, Modified Pages 2 and Page Match Rate 33%. The report lists page 3 as removed from the revised document.
When to use this tool

Important limitations
Text comparison evaluates extractable text streams and character layouts, while Visual compare renders up to 15 pages into responsive side-by-side canvases to highlight image and layout alterations at up to 1200px width.
Frequently asked questions
Does it highlight the exact words that changed?
The main report prints whole-page text with minus and plus signs. The Smart comparison panel below the file inputs gives a word-level redline with deletions in red and insertions in green, plus a table of amounts, dates and numbers that differ, and a downloadable standalone HTML report.
Does it compare images, fonts or layout?
Yes, using the Visual compare option. While the Text diff mode focuses on extracted words, Visual compare renders both documents side by side onto canvases and generates a pixel diff overlay that highlights image, layout, font, and graphical alterations in red. Documents up to 15 pages are supported in visual mode.
What happens if a page is inserted?
The main report compares strictly by page number, so an inserted page shifts everything after it. Smart comparison has an option to align pages by text similarity, so an inserted or removed page shows as added or removed and the pages after it still match.
How is Page Match Rate calculated?
Identical pages divided by the larger page count, rounded to a whole percent. Two files of 3 and 2 pages have a maximum of 3, so a single matching page gives 33 percent.
Are whitespace differences counted?
The main report trims text at the ends only. Smart comparison can ignore whitespace, letter case, page numbers and repeated headers or footers, which cuts noise; its header detection is a heuristic based on lines repeated on at least half the pages.
