How to use Add Border to Image
- Use "Choose an image" to load one or more pictures that need a frame; a live preview appears below the settings.
- Set "Border width" and its unit (pixels, or a percentage of the shorter side so every photo in a batch gets the same proportion), pick a colour, and choose a "Border style": Classic Solid, Polaroid, Double Inset, Rounded, Mat / passe-partout, Film strip or Gradient.
- Choose whether the border sits outside (canvas grows) or inside (covers the photo edge), or set each side separately.
- To avoid Instagram-style cropping, pick "Fit canvas to shape" such as 4:5, 1:1 or 9:16; extra space is filled with the border colour or a blurred copy of the photo and the photo itself is never cropped.
- Add outer or photo corner radius and an optional soft shadow, pick PNG, JPEG or WebP, press "Create framed image(s)" and download each result or the ZIP.
Worked example
Load a 1200 x 800 landscape photo, choose "Fit canvas to shape" 4:5, a 4 percent white border and blurred background. The framed photo is centred on a 4:5 canvas (about 1248 x 1560 px) with nothing cropped, ready for Instagram's portrait slot.

Important limitations
Adding outer borders expands overall canvas dimensions by twice the border width; verify downstream container requirements when uploading bordered images.
Frequently asked questions
Does "Rounded Outer Corners" round the corners by itself?
That style applies a default radius of about 6 percent of the canvas when the radius box is 0. Any style can be rounded by typing an outer corner radius, and the photo can have its own corner radius.
How is the Polaroid bottom calculated?
The extra space at the bottom is 2.8 times the border width on top of the normal border. A 30 pixel border adds 84 pixels below the picture.
Why are my rounded corners white?
Rounded corners are transparent in PNG and WebP. JPEG cannot store transparency, so the tool fills the corners with white and says so.
Does fitting to 4:5 or 9:16 crop my photo?
No. The canvas is enlarged to the chosen shape around the framed photo, so nothing is cut off. The border is a minimum: extra space appears on the sides that need it.
Why use a percentage border?
A 5 percent border is 5 percent of the shorter side of each photo, so a batch of different sizes ends up with matching proportions instead of a thick frame on small photos and a hairline on large ones.
Does the border cover part of my picture?
Only if you choose Inside. Outside (the default) grows the canvas without cropping the photo, so output dimensions are larger than the input.
