How to use Crop PDF Margins
- Select the file under "Select PDF to crop"; a page preview opens with arrows to move between pages.
- Set "Apply crop to": All pages, Current page only, Odd pages only or Even pages only.
- Enter the "Crop Margins (Points / pt)" for Top, Bottom, Left and Right, drag the crop rectangle directly on the preview canvas, or click presets (None, 0.5 in, 1.0 in, A4, Letter, 1:1 Square).
- Press "Auto-Trim White Space" to fill the margins from the blank space around the current page, leaving a 12 pt breathing gap.
- Press "Crop & Download PDF" to save cropped- plus the file name.
Worked example
Take a US Letter page (612 x 792 pt) and click the 0.5 in (36 pt) preset so all four margins read 36. The new page is 612 - 36 - 36 = 540 pt wide and 792 - 36 - 36 = 720 pt tall, which is 7.5 by 10 inches. With the 1.0 in preset it would be 468 x 648 pt. The status reports how many pages were cropped.
When to use this tool
- Cutting the wide white margins off a scanned page so it fits a reader screen better.
- Applying the same crop only to odd pages of a book scan where the gutter sits on one side.
- Trimming a header band from every page of an exported report.
Important limitations
Adjusts the PDF CropBox and MediaBox viewing viewports without re-rasterizing vector fonts or graphics. Hidden content outside the crop boundary remains in the underlying PDF stream and can be restored with a PDF editor.

Frequently asked questions
How is Auto-Trim different from typing margins?
It scans the preview of the page you are viewing and treats any pixel darker than about 240 in any colour channel as content. Faint grey text or a light watermark may therefore be trimmed away.
Are the trim values reused for other pages?
Yes. The four numbers apply to every page in the chosen scope, even if Auto-Trim measured only one. A page with different margins may be cut into. Check the preview of a busy page first.
Is the cropped-off content deleted?
No. The tool changes the visible page box, so the outer area is hidden, not erased. Do not use it to hide sensitive information, because a PDF editor can restore the full page.
Does the crop shrink the file size?
Not noticeably. Page contents are kept exactly as they were and only the page rectangle changes, so the file stays about the same size. Use Compress PDF separately if size is the goal.
What is the smallest page I can crop to?
The result is never narrower or shorter than 20 points. Margins that would leave less are capped, so an over-large value gives a thin strip rather than an error.
Can it split two-page scans, trim every page the same, or fit standard paper sizes?
Yes. The preview canvas includes a draggable crop rectangle and paper presets (A4, Letter, 1:1 Square) wired two-way to the margin inputs. The batch block splits spreads into left and right pages, auto-trims with the same margins on every page or per page, accepts points, millimetres or inches, handles rotated pages and processes multiple files into a ZIP. True crop redraws pages as images to remove hidden content.
