What do Amount, Radius and Threshold do?
Amount is how strongly edges are boosted (100% doubles the edge contrast). Radius is how wide the edge halo is, in pixels: small for fine detail, larger for general crispness. Threshold skips pixels that differ from their surroundings by less than that value, so smooth skin, sky and noise are left alone.
Can this fix a blurry photo?
It makes slightly soft photos look crisper, which covers most resized, scanned or phone photos. A photo that is badly out of focus or smeared by motion has lost the detail, and no sharpening filter can bring it back.
Why does my image look grainy after sharpening?
The amount is too high for the noise in the photo. Raise Threshold to 5 to 10, or lower Amount.
Is this the same as Photoshop's Unsharp Mask?
It uses the same method: blur a copy with a Gaussian-like blur, then add back the difference between the original and the blur. Numbers can differ slightly, because Photoshop's blur is not exactly the same.
