How to use Morse Code Translator & Audio
- Type into the left "Text to Morse" box or click a sample chip such as "SOS (... --- ...)", "CQ Calling", "Mayday", "73 (Best regards)" or "Hello World".
- Read the Morse in the right box: letters separated by spaces and words by "/". Type Morse there (or press "Morse to Text") to decode instead.
- Set the "Speed" slider from 5 to 40 WPM and "Tone" from 400 to 1000 Hz, then press "Play Audio Sound"; the flasher lamp blinks in step, and "Stop" cancels.
- Practise on "TAP KEY [Spacebar]"; a press shorter than about 1.8 dit lengths counts as a dot, and "Clear Taps" resets the pad.
- Use "Copy Morse Code", "Copy Text" or "Download Audio (.wav)"; clicking a card on the reference sheet plays that character.
Worked example
Enter "HELLO WORLD". The right box shows .... . .-.. .-.. --- / .-- --- .-. .-.. -.. and typing that back into it returns "HELLO WORLD" in capitals. At 20 WPM a dit lasts 60 ms and a dash 180 ms, so the H (four dits) takes 240 ms of tone plus gaps.

Important limitations
Translates characters conforming to the International Morse Code (ITU-R M.1677-1) standard including English letters, digits, and common punctuation. Non-Latin alphabets (such as Cyrillic or Arabic Morse) require standard Latin transliteration.

Frequently asked questions
Which characters can be encoded?
Letters A-Z, digits 0-9 and about 20 punctuation marks such as . , ? ' ! / ( ) & = + - _ " : ; @ and $. Anything else is silently skipped without an error, so "café" becomes -.-. .- ..-. with the é missing.
How should Morse be written for decoding?
Use single spaces between letters and "/" or three or more spaces between words. A group that matches no character appears as a question mark.
How is the timing calculated?
One dit lasts 1200 divided by the WPM value in milliseconds, so 60 ms at 20 WPM. A dash is three dits, letter gaps are three dits and word gaps seven. Live playback uses browser timers, so a busy tab can drift slightly.
Why does audio need a click first?
Browsers block sound until a user gesture, so press Play Audio Sound. The WAV button saves the same dot-and-dash sequence as a sine tone at your chosen speed and pitch.
Does it handle prosigns and American Morse?
No. It uses International Morse only. SOS is sent as three separate letters, not as the run-together prosign, and no other prosigns are modelled. An unbroken prosign would have to be keyed by hand on the straight key.
