How to use BPM Finder & Tap Tempo
- On the "Interactive Tap Tempo" tab, press the large tap button (or the Spacebar) in time with the music; at least two taps are needed.
- Read the big BPM figure with its exact decimal, plus the tap count and the MIN / MAX BPM box.
- Use "0.5× Half-Time" or "2× Double-Time" when you tapped at the wrong pulse, and "Reset Taps" to start again.
- Switch to "Audio File Beat Detector" and press "Select Audio File" or "Analyze 120 BPM Demo Track" to estimate tempo from a recording.
- Start the metronome with "Start Metronome", pick a "Time Signature:", or enter two tempos in the DJ calculator and press "Calculate Fader %".
Worked example
Tap the button five times with a half-second gap each time. The four intervals average 500 ms, so 60,000 ÷ 500 gives 120 BPM, and the tap count reads 5. In the DJ calculator, enter 124 as the incoming track and 128 as the target: the result is +3.23%, so speed up the fader by 3.23%.

Important limitations
Algorithmic audio beat detection relies on low-pass transient energy peaks around 60–190 BPM. Classical tracks with rubato tempo variations or ambient music without percussive beats are best measured using the interactive Tap Tempo engine.

Frequently asked questions
How does tap tempo calculate the result?
It averages the gaps between your last 24 taps and converts the mean interval to beats per minute. A pause of over 3 seconds clears the history, so start a fresh count after a break.
How reliable is the audio file detector?
It filters below 150 Hz, finds energy peaks and looks for intervals between 60 and 190 BPM. Tracks with weak beats or unusual tempos can be wrong, and if nothing is found it falls back to 120.
Why does it give half or double the tempo I expected?
Detection is restricted to 60 to 190 BPM, so a 200 BPM drum and bass track may show as 100. Use the double or half button to correct it.
What does the DJ fader percentage mean?
It is (target - incoming) ÷ incoming × 100. To move a 124 BPM track to 128 BPM you push the pitch fader up by 3.23 percent. It ignores key changes that pitch adjustment causes.
What range does the metronome accept?
Tempos below 20 or above 350 BPM are refused with a message. The metronome uses the tapped or detected value, or 120 if none exists.
