How to use MP4 to MP3 Converter
- Pick an MP4 file with "Choose a local file"; the picker is limited to video/mp4 and .mp4.
- Open "MP3 quality" and select "128 kbps — smaller", "192 kbps — balanced" or "256 kbps — higher".
- Press "Process file"; the first run loads the roughly 32 MB engine, then the percentage counter advances.
- Wait for the "Ready" line, which shows the MP3 size in MB.
- Click "Download audio.mp3".
Worked example
Convert lecture.mp4, a 4-minute recording, at "192 kbps — balanced". The MP3 holds 192,000 bits per second for 240 seconds, or 5,760,000 bytes, which the page displays as about 5.49 MB. Choosing 128 kbps would give 3.66 MB and 256 kbps would give 7.32 MB for the same audio.
When to use this tool
- Turning a recorded webinar into an audio file for a commute.
- Saving the soundtrack of your own screen recording as a small MP3.
- Creating a compact voice-only copy of an interview video.
Important limitations
Large media jobs can be slow or run out of browser memory. Keep the tab open and use desktop software for very large or production-critical files. This matters here because MP4 to MP3 Converter is designed to extract audio from an MP4 video and save it as an MP3 file, not to repair unrelated source problems.
Frequently asked questions
What if my video has no sound?
The engine then has nothing to extract and stops with a message that media processing ended with an exit code. Check that the MP4 really contains an audio track before retrying.
Does a higher bitrate improve quality?
Only up to the source. If the MP4 carries 96 kbps AAC audio, encoding at 256 kbps makes a bigger file without adding detail. Match the setting to the source for the best trade-off.
How is this different from Extract Audio from Video?
This page only takes MP4 and only makes MP3. Extract Audio from Video accepts more video types and offers WAV, AAC and OGG, with bitrates up to 320 kbps.
Are chapters, cover art or tags carried over?
No. The command drops the video stream and encodes the sound alone, so chapters and cover art are not carried over. The output is a plain MP3 named audio.mp3 without artwork.
How large a file can I convert?
Files of 250 MB and above are rejected. Long videos also need memory for the engine, so a phone browser may run out before a laptop would.
