How to use GPA Calculator
- Type one course per line in the Courses box using the pattern Course Name, Grade, Credits, Weight, for example "Calculus I, A, 4, AP".
- Pick a Grading Scale: Standard 4.0, where A+ is 4.0, or Standard 4.33, where A+ is 4.33 and A- is 3.67.
- Optionally fill Current Cumulative GPA and Prior Completed Credits to merge earlier work into a cumulative result.
- For planning, enter a Target Cumulative GPA and Remaining Future Credits, then press "Calculate GPA".
- Read the semester GPA (unweighted and weighted), the cumulative result, the target plan and the per-course table.
Worked example
Enter three rows: "Biology, A, 4, Regular", "Statistics, B+, 3, Honors", "Art, C, 2, Regular" on the 4.0 scale. Unweighted points are 16 + 9.9 + 4 = 29.9 over 9 credits, a semester GPA of 3.322. With Honors adding 0.5, Statistics counts 3.8 × 3 = 11.4, so weighted points are 31.4 and the weighted GPA is 3.489.

Important limitations
Grading scales vary by academic institution. This tool supports standard 4.0 collegiate scales, plus 0.5 honors and 1.0 AP/IB weighting. Custom departmental minus-grade penalties can be adjusted via letter grade overrides.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Weight column work?
The word AP, IB or College adds 1.0 to that course's grade points in the weighted GPA, and Honors adds 0.5. Anything else, including Regular, adds nothing. The unweighted figure never includes these bonuses.
What if I leave Credits blank?
A missing credit value defaults to 3 for that course. Rows with fewer than two comma-separated parts are skipped, so check that every line has a name and a grade.
Does the cumulative GPA use weighted grades?
No. The cumulative figure merges your prior GPA and credits with the semester's unweighted points only. The weighted number applies to the current semester alone.
Can I enter numeric grades?
Yes. If a grade is not a recognised letter, the tool reads it as a number, so 3.5 counts as 3.5 points. An unreadable grade is treated as 0, which can lower the average unexpectedly.
What does the target planner tell me?
It works out the average you need across the remaining credits to hit the target. It reports if you already exceed it or if the needed value is unreachable, based on the 4.0 ceiling.
