How to use Add Watermark to PDF
- Choose your file under "Choose a PDF", then decide between the "Text watermark" and "Image or logo" tabs.
- For text, fill "Watermark text" (CONFIDENTIAL is the default), then pick a "Font family" (Helvetica, Times or Courier), "Font size" and "Colour".
- For a logo, choose a PNG or JPEG under "PNG or JPEG logo" and set "Logo width (% of page)" from 5 to 90.
- Set "Opacity" (0.05 to 1), "Angle" (-180 to 180) and "Position", which offers nine anchors or "Tile across page".
- Enter "Pages or ranges" such as 1, 3-5 or all, watch the small preview box, then press "Apply watermark".
Worked example
Load a 6-page PDF, keep the text CONFIDENTIAL, choose Helvetica at 42 pt, colour blue, opacity 0.2, angle -30 and position Centre, with Pages or ranges set to 2-4. After Apply watermark the status reads Watermark applied to 3 pages, and watermarked.pdf has the faint diagonal word only on pages 2, 3 and 4.

Important limitations
Watermarks serve as visual attribution and status notices; they do not enforce DRM protection or prevent recipients from copying unencrypted text.
Frequently asked questions
Can the watermark be removed afterwards?
It is drawn onto the page content as normal text or an image, not as a removable layer. Anyone with a PDF editor can still paint over it or remove it, so it deters casual reuse rather than preventing it.
Why is a rotated watermark off-centre?
Rotation pivots around the watermark's start point, not its middle. A centred anchor at -30 degrees shifts slightly up and right. Adjust the anchor or angle after checking one page.
What does Tile across page produce?
A grid of twelve stamps, three across and four down, placed with fixed spacing. It is not adaptive, so long text at a large font size overlaps its neighbours.
Which characters can the text use?
The built-in Helvetica, Times and Courier fonts cover basic Latin letters only. Characters outside that set, such as Arabic, Chinese or emoji, cannot be encoded and make the run fail with an error.
Is the preview accurate?
It is a rough CSS sketch showing colour, opacity, angle and anchor. Actual size depends on the page. Test on one page using the range field before running a large file.
Can I personalise copies per recipient or tile the mark?
Yes. The advanced block supports {page}, {pages}, {date}, {filename} and {recipient} in the text, one copy per listed name in a ZIP, a diagonal tiled pattern, and an opt-in mode that burns the mark into page images. That mode removes selectable text and enlarges the file.
