How to use Crop Image
- Select one or more photos under "Select Photo(s) to Crop"; a canvas opens with a dimmed image and a bright crop box with thirds guides.
- Drag inside the box to move it, drag any of the eight square handles to resize, or type exact values into X, Y, Width and Height (in photo pixels). Arrow keys nudge the box when the canvas has focus.
- Pick an "Aspect Ratio" (Freeform, same shape as the photo, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 4:5, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2, 2:3, 35:45, 2:1 or a custom ratio). Ratios are measured in the photo's own pixels.
- Optionally choose a circle or rounded-rectangle shape, an exact output width and height, and a largest file size in KB (JPEG or WebP).
- Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP and press "Crop & Download Photo". With several photos loaded, use "Apply this crop to all photos", adjust any thumbnail, then "Crop all and download ZIP".
Worked example
Load a 4000 x 3000 photo and choose 1:1: the box becomes a true square, for example 2400 x 2400, and the fields show it. Pick Circle, keep PNG, and the download is a round avatar with transparent corners. Set output width 512 to get exactly 512 x 512.
When to use this tool
- Trimming a wide phone screenshot down to just the chat bubble that matters.
- Cutting a portrait to the middle of a group photo for a profile picture.
- Straightening a sideways scan with rotate and then removing the scanner border.
Important limitations
Cropping removes pixels outside the selected bounding area; always preserve your original high-resolution master image before cropping.
Frequently asked questions
Can I type exact crop coordinates?
Yes. X, Y, Width and Height are editable and measured in the pixels of the rotated photo; changing one moves the box, and with a fixed ratio the linked side follows.
Why is my 1:1 box square now?
Ratio presets are computed in the photo's own pixels, so 1:1 gives equal Width and Height on any photo. The old preview-relative behaviour is gone.
How do circle and rounded crops work?
The corners outside the shape are transparent, so save as PNG or WebP. JPEG has no transparency, so those corners become white and the status line says so.
Can I hit an exact size and a KB limit?
Enter an output width and/or height to scale the crop to exact pixels, and a largest size in KB. For JPEG and WebP the quality is lowered until the file fits; if the limit cannot be met at the lowest quality you are told. PNG ignores the KB limit.
Is the exported crop full resolution?
Yes unless you set an output size. The preview is only a scaled display; the export re-draws the transformed photo at its original pixel size and cuts the exact region.
Does rotating change the crop area?
Rotation and flips apply to the whole photo, and the box is reset to a default position after a 90-degree turn because its coordinates belong to the rotated photo.
