How to use Rotate & Flip Image
- Choose a file under "Choose an image".
- Open the "Rotation" menu and select "90° Clockwise", "180° Half Turn", "270° Clockwise (90° Counter-Clockwise)" or "No rotation (0°)".
- Set "Mirror / Flip" to "None", "Horizontal Flip (Mirror)" or "Vertical Flip" if the picture is also reversed, as with a selfie.
- Press "Create image" and inspect the preview drawn below the button.
- Use the download link that appears; the file is a PNG at the same pixel size, with width and height swapped for 90 and 270 degree turns.
Worked example
A landscape scan of 1600 x 900 pixels was saved sideways. Select "90° Clockwise" and leave the flip on "None". The tool draws a 900 x 1600 PNG in which the left edge of the original becomes the top edge. Change only the flip to "Horizontal Flip (Mirror)" and the text on the page reads correctly again if it was mirrored.

Important limitations
Lossless rotation only applies to JPEGs that already carry a rewritable EXIF Orientation tag (rewrites that 2-byte tag only, pixel data untouched); JPEGs without one, and all other image types, use the canvas-based rotate which re-encodes pixels at the selected export quality.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate by a custom angle such as 15 degrees?
No. Only quarter turns (0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees) are offered. A free-angle rotation would create empty corners, and this tool has no straighten or crop-to-fit function.
Why is the output a PNG when I gave it a JPEG?
Rotate always exports PNG, which is lossless, so no additional JPEG artifacts are added. The file can be larger than the original photo. Convert it afterwards if you need a smaller JPEG.
My phone photo already looks upright. Will rotation be applied twice?
Browsers normally read the camera orientation tag when decoding a photo, so you rotate what you see on screen. If a viewer shows the result differently, compare it in more than one program.
Which happens first, rotation or flip?
The picture is turned first and then mirrored along the chosen axis of the rotated canvas. Combining 180 degrees with a horizontal flip therefore equals a plain vertical flip.
Is anything cropped or lost?
No pixels are cut. A 90 or 270 degree turn simply swaps width and height, and transparent areas in a PNG stay transparent. Only the orientation of the pixels changes; nothing is resampled or recolored.
