How to use Sign PDF Online Free
- Select the file under "Select PDF document"; the page preview appears with "Page 1 of n" and arrow buttons for moving between pages.
- Create a signature on one of three tabs: "Draw" (with a choice of three ink colours and "Clear Pad"), "Type" (name in one of four script styles) or "Upload" (PNG or JPG, optionally "Remove white background").
- Tick "Include current date stamp" and choose the format: YYYY-MM-DD, MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY.
- Press "Place Signature on Document", drag the badge onto the signature line and use the size slider. Under "Signature on more pages" choose this page, every page or a list such as 1,3-5.
- Optional: add Text, Initials, Date or Check mark fields under "Text, initials, date and check-mark fields" (click on the page or use "Add at page centre"), and choose a .p12 or .pfx file under "Certificate signature" for a real digital signature.
- Press "Sign & Download PDF" to save signed- plus your file name. Tick the tamper-evidence box first if you also want a small verification file with the SHA-256.
Worked example
Load a 3-page lease, type the name "Amina Khan" in the Type tab and press Place Signature on Document. Choose "Every page" under Signature on more pages, add an Initials field and a Check mark field on page 1, tick the tamper-evidence box and press Sign & Download PDF. You get signed-lease.pdf with the signature and date on all three pages, plus signed-lease.pdf.verification.txt containing the file's SHA-256.
When to use this tool
- Signing a timesheet PDF without printing and scanning it, and initialling every page in one save.
- Adding a drawn signature, a date and check marks to a rental form on a phone without creating an account.
- Signing a contract with your own .p12 certificate so the recipient can see whether the file changed after signing.
Important limitations
Without a certificate this is a visual electronic signature: an image and date stamp drawn into the page. With your own .p12 or .pfx file it adds a PKCS#7 (adbe.pkcs7.detached, SHA-256) signature over the whole file, which viewers show as valid but not trusted unless they trust your certificate. It is not a qualified or notarised signature, so it may not satisfy portals that require one. The verification file is a SHA-256 hash and a device-clock timestamp, not a signature.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a legally valid digital signature?
Without a certificate it is a visual e-signature: an image stamped onto the page. If you choose your own .p12 or .pfx file the tool also adds a PKCS#7 signature (adbe.pkcs7.detached, SHA-256) that covers the whole file. A self-signed certificate is not a qualified or notarised signature, and viewers will show the signer as unverified unless they trust your certificate. Ask the recipient what they accept.
Can I sign more than one page in one go?
Yes. Place the signature once, then choose "Every page" or list pages such as 1,3-5 under "Signature on more pages". The same signature and date are drawn at the same position on each chosen page. Text, initials, date and check-mark fields are placed on the page you are viewing when you add them.
Where is my certificate or saved signature kept?
The certificate file and its password are read in this tab to sign and are not stored or uploaded. "Save this signature in this browser" keeps only the signature image in this browser's local storage on this device; "Delete saved signature" removes it. Clearing site data also removes it.
What does the tamper-evidence file prove?
It records the SHA-256 of the signed PDF, its size and the time from your device clock. If you recompute the hash later (or use "Check integrity" on the page) and it differs, the file changed. It is not a certificate signature and the timestamp is not from a trusted time server; keep the record separately from the PDF.
Can the signature be moved after downloading?
No. It becomes part of the page content. Position and size are only adjustable in the preview, so verify them before pressing Sign & Download PDF. A certificate signature is applied last, so any later edit to the file invalidates it.
