How to use Organize PDF: Reorder Pages
- Choose a file under "Choose a PDF"; the box "New page order" fills with the pages in their present order, such as 1,2,3,4.
- Edit the numbers, separated by commas, into the sequence you want, for example 3, 1, 2. The preview line under it counts the target pages.
- Use the shortcuts if they fit: "Reverse Entire Document Order", "Reset to Original Order (1...N)" or "Move Last Page to First".
- Press "Reorder Pages"; any number outside the page count stops the run with an error naming the bad value.
- Download reordered.pdf and check the first pages.
Worked example
Open a 5-page document. Pressing Move Last Page to First fills the box with 5,1,2,3,4, and Reverse Entire Document Order fills it with 5,4,3,2,1. Typing 2,1,4,3 into a 4-page file swaps pairs, and the status reads Reordered PDF document generated with 4 pages.
When to use this tool
- Moving a signature page that was scanned last to the front where it belongs.
- Reversing a stack scanned from the back of the pile.
- Swapping two chapters in a draft without opening an editor.
Important limitations
Reordering pages alters sequential flow and page cross-references, which normally invalidates preexisting digital cryptographic signatures.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use ranges like 1-3 in the order box?
No. This tool accepts single page numbers separated by commas only, and "1-3" is rejected as invalid. Write 1,2,3 in full, or use the Extract Pages tool if you need range syntax.
What happens to pages I leave out?
They are dropped from the result, so leaving out 4 in a five-page file gives a four-page output. It works as a reorder and a deletion at once, which can surprise you if the list is short.
Can I repeat a page?
Yes. Listing a number twice copies that page twice, so 1,1,2 makes a three-page file starting with two copies of page 1. This helps when you need duplicate slip sheets.
Does the preview check the order?
It only counts the entries you typed and shows them back to you. Invalid or out-of-range numbers are caught at the moment you press Reorder Pages, not while typing, so read the sequence twice first.
Are bookmarks and links preserved?
Pages are copied into a new file, so the outline and some interactive features may not carry over. Check any navigation-heavy PDF after reordering, and keep the original as a fallback.
Can it fix duplex scans or make a booklet?
Yes. Presets rebuild the order for a stack scanned front sides first then back sides (backs in reverse or in order), the order can be copied as text and loaded again, and a booklet button makes a 2-up saddle-stitch file padded to a multiple of 4 pages.
