How to use Make Round Profile Image
- Select a photo through "Choose an image"; any format your browser can display will load.
- Note that there are no size or zoom controls: the circle's diameter is the shorter side of your picture, and the crop is centered.
- Press "Create image" to draw the circle onto a transparent canvas and show the preview with its size in KB.
- Check that the face or logo sits at the middle of the photo's shorter side. If it is off-center, crop the image first and run it again.
- Download the file, which is saved as round-image.png so that the corners stay transparent.
Worked example
Upload portrait.jpg measuring 1600 × 900 px. The tool takes the smaller side, 900, as the diameter and trims 350 px from the left and the same from the right (1600 − 900, halved). Pressing "Create image" shows a 900 × 900 round cutout, and round-image.png downloads with fully transparent corners outside the circle.

Important limitations
Browser decoding support varies by format. Re-encoding can remove metadata and may change color profiles or introduce lossy compression. This matters here because Make Round Profile Image is designed to crop an image into a transparent circular profile picture, not to repair unrelated source problems.
Frequently asked questions
What size does the finished circle have?
The output is a square canvas whose side equals the smaller of your width and height. A 1600 × 900 photo therefore becomes 900 × 900. Nothing is enlarged, and pixels outside the circle are transparent.
Can I move or zoom the picture inside the circle?
Not here. The crop is always centered and unscaled. Use Crop Image to bring the subject to the middle, or resize afterwards with Resize Image if a platform wants exactly 400 × 400.
Why does the download always come out as PNG?
Transparent corners need an alpha channel, which JPEG cannot store. If you drop the PNG into a JPEG-only workflow, the corners will turn black or white depending on the software.
What is cut away from portrait and landscape pictures?
For landscape photos the left and right edges are removed equally. For portrait photos the top and bottom go instead. The kept area is always the largest centered square.
Can I get rounded corners rather than a full circle?
This tool only makes full circles. For a rounded rectangle, use Image Border with its "Rounded Outer Corners" style and set a corner radius value in pixels instead.
