How to use Remove Image Metadata
- Choose one or more JPEG, PNG or WebP photos under "Choose one or more images". A report appears for each file listing what it carries: camera, lens, serial number, capture time, software, GPS position, embedded thumbnail, XMP and IPTC.
- Pick what to remove: all metadata, only the GPS location, or a custom set of categories. Keep the rotation tag and the colour profile if you want the photo to stay upright and colour-accurate.
- Press "Remove metadata". JPEG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned by deleting the metadata blocks inside the file, so the picture data is copied across untouched.
- Read the re-scan line under each result: it checks the cleaned file again and tells you whether any GPS or personal metadata is left.
- Download the single file, or the ZIP when you cleaned several photos.
Worked example
Drop market.jpg, a phone photo with a GPS position. The report lists the camera model, the capture time and the coordinates. Choose "All metadata" and download market-clean.jpg: the picture data is identical, the coordinates and camera fields are gone, and the re-scan line reads "no GPS".

Important limitations
JPEG, PNG and WebP are cleaned by deleting metadata blocks without recompressing the picture. Other formats (GIF, BMP, AVIF) are redrawn through the browser canvas and saved as PNG, which drops animation. The re-scan checks the same fields the report reads; it is not a forensic guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Which information is removed?
In "all" mode: EXIF (camera, lens, serial number, dates, GPS, embedded thumbnail), XMP, IPTC/Photoshop blocks, comments, text chunks and other add-on data. The colour profile is kept by default and can be removed too.
Does the picture quality change?
Not for JPEG, PNG or WebP with the default settings: the tool deletes metadata segments and does not decode or recompress the image, so the pixel data is byte-for-byte the same. Formats without a byte-level cleaner here (GIF, BMP, AVIF and similar) are redrawn through the browser and saved as PNG.
Will the picture end up rotated?
No. For JPEG the tool keeps only the small orientation tag so viewers still show the photo upright. If you untick that option, or the photo is a PNG or WebP with a rotation tag, the rotation is baked into the pixels and that file is re-encoded; the result line says so.
Can I remove only the location?
Yes. GPS-only mode zeroes the GPS block and keeps the rest, such as the camera model and date. If the GPS position is also stored in XMP, the XMP block is dropped.
How do I know it worked?
Each result is scanned again after cleaning and shows whether GPS or other personal metadata blocks remain. That check reads the same fields the report reads; a dedicated viewer such as ExifTool is a good second opinion.
