How to use AI Paraphraser

  1. Paste up to about 500 words into "Text to paraphrase"; the counter under the box reads "n / 500 words".
  2. Choose a "Rewrite tone": Standard, Formal, Fluent, Creative or Concise.
  3. Press "Instant Rephrase" for a quick word swap using built-in tables, and scan the highlighted "Side-by-side phrasing comparison".
  4. Press "Paraphrase text (AI)" for a rewrite by a small on-device model; the first run shows a download progress bar and "Stop waiting" cancels it.
  5. Try "Alternative variant", then "Copy result" or "Download TXT"; "Reset" clears everything.

Worked example

Set tone to Concise and enter "In order to save time, we make a decision on a daily basis." Instant Rephrase returns "To save time, we decide daily." In the comparison line only "decide" is highlighted, because "to" and "daily" already appeared in the original.

When to use this tool

  • Shortening wordy phrases such as "due to the fact that" to "because".
  • Comparing a Formal and a Creative wording of the same sentence.
  • Getting a rough alternative to edit by hand when a sentence feels repetitive.

Important limitations

Runs privately in your browser using local AI (Qwen2.5-0.5B) and instant client-side phrasing rules. Passages under 300 words deliver the best stylistic nuance and coherence.

Comparing alternatives

Other options for ai paraphraser include QuillBot, Wordtune, Grammarly.

Frequently asked questions

What does Instant Rephrase really do?

It swaps whole words and phrases from short tables: Formal turns help into assist and buy into purchase, Concise turns "in order to" into "to", Creative turns good into exceptional. It does not restructure sentences, so "need to" can become the awkward "require to". Standard and Fluent reuse the Formal table.

Does the "Rewrite strength" menu change anything?

No. The menu is displayed but the code never reads it, so Subtle, Balanced and High give identical results. Only Rewrite tone alters the output.

Which model runs in AI mode and what are its limits?

A small Qwen2.5 0.5B model is fetched into the browser, using WebGPU where available and slower WebAssembly otherwise. It can drop details or shift nuance, output is capped at 512 tokens, and a truncation warning appears when that cap is hit.

Does my text leave the browser?

Rewriting happens on your device. The first AI run does need a connection to fetch the model and its library, which the browser may cache. Instant Rephrase needs nothing beyond the loaded page.

How does Alternative variant work?

It reruns the Instant tables on your original text with the Creative table when the current tone is Formal, and the Formal table otherwise. It does not call the AI model again.
