How to use Instagram Photo Resizer & Social Sizes
- Choose one picture under "Choose an image".
- Pick a target in "Social Media Preset", for example "YouTube Video Thumbnail (1280×720)" or "LinkedIn Cover Banner (1584×396)".
- Choose "Cover (Fill & crop)" to fill the frame or "Contain (Fit full image on white background)" to keep everything visible.
- Press "Create image" and inspect the preview for cut-off faces or text.
- Download the PNG, then upload it to the platform without letting it re-scale.
Worked example
Upload a 4000 x 3000 photo and choose "YouTube Video Thumbnail (1280×720)". With Cover, the scale is the larger of 0.32 and 0.24, so 0.32: the photo becomes 1280 x 960 and 120 pixels are trimmed from the top and bottom. With Contain, the scale is 0.24, giving 960 x 720 and 160 white pixels on each side.

Important limitations
Aspect ratio conversion using Cover mode crops edge content, while Contain mode introduces solid background margins to preserve the full frame.
Frequently asked questions
Which platforms and sizes are listed?
Ten presets: Instagram square, story and portrait, Facebook link card, YouTube thumbnail and channel banner, Twitter/X post and header, and LinkedIn feed post and cover. Other platforms need the general resizer.
Does Cover choose the best part of the picture?
No. It scales the photo to fill and trims equally from both sides, always centered. If your subject is off-center, crop it first or use Contain.
What color are the bars in Contain mode?
White, always. The tool fills the frame with white before placing the scaled picture, and the fill color cannot be changed. Transparent images also get the white base.
Are these official current requirements?
They are commonly used sizes that platforms change from time to time, so check the current guideline if a strict limit matters. Platforms may also re-compress your upload.
Why is the PNG so big?
PNG is lossless, so a detailed photo at 2560 x 1440 can weigh several MB. Convert to JPEG or WebP if an upload limit blocks it.
